The construction of Sukabumi Airport is targeted to commence in 2019. Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said this during his working visit to Sukabumi, West Java, on Wednesday (8/30/2017).

"We have agreed [with the Governments of Sukabumi City and Sukabumi Regency] will plan the construction of the airport in Sukabumi, but the place we will review again. Original place is far from the city of Sukabumi," said Budi in a press release on Thursday (8/31).

According to him, the Ministry of Transportation has the option to determine the location of the Sukabumi Airport closer to the city. This is in connection with one of the requirements for the feasibility of the airport building is to be close to the community.

"The residents of Sukabumi Regency and Sukabumi City are about 3 million people. One of the feasibilities of building the airport is to be close to the community. Other things being considered are wind velocity and environmental conditions," he explained.

He said the ministry would coordinate with the Governments of Sukabumi Regency and West Java Province so that the land acquisition can be completed soon.

"The central government will provide contribution funds. Target is at least by 2018 to complete the land acquisition and is expected by 2019 [airport] will begin to be built and by early 2020 it can operate," he said.

Budi Karya added with the airport in Sukabumi it is expected to improve the wheels of people's economy, especially those in Sukabumi Regency, Sukabumi City and the surrounding communities. (netralnews)
