The Cargo Facility at Frans Kaisiepo Airport is Ready to be Expanded to Support Fish Export from Biak

Frans Kaisiepo Biak Airport (BIK), managed by PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero) or Angkasa Pura Airports, is ready to support the increase of Biak’s fish product, Papua. This is in line with the Indonesian Government’s plan to grow the Biak fishery sector to make Biak Numfor as one of the National Fish Shed.

The government’s plants can be seen from the visit of the Investment and Maritime Coordinator Minister Luhut B. Panjaitan, the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, and the Fishery and Maritime Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono to Biak Numfor to make sure of infrastructures and facilities as the supports of fish export in Biak on Wednesday, 6th October 2021.

During the visit, The Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi considered that Frans Kaisiepo Airport is adequate to support the fish commodity export from Biak to countries in Asia.

“Angkasa Pura Airports always support the manifestation of the government’s plan to develop the potency of regional economy, including the optimization of fishery sector in Biak Numfor. To support it, Angkasa Pura Airports plans to do cargo facilities development at Frans Kaisiepo Airport Biak. Hope, with the development plan, it will support the increase potency of Biak’s fish export capacity,” said the President Director of PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero) Faik Fahmi.

Currently, Frans Kaisiepo Airport has a 324 square meter cargo terminal with receiving capacity for 20 tons of cargo per day and exit capacity for 12 tons of cargo per day. Later, the cargo terminal of Frans Kaisiepo Airport will be developed for square meters that is facilitated with 2 freeze warehouses with 5 tons capacity each and a 60 square meters transhipment warehouse with 65 tons capacity.

The fish commodities delivered from Frans Kaisisepo Airport, so far, are lobster, grouper fish (ikan kerapu), and shrimps or prawns with destinations to Jakarta, Denpasar, Makassar, Sentani, and Surabaya. In August 2021, the fish commodity of Biak was exported to Singapore. In the future, Biak’s fish commodity will have the potency to be exported to China and Japan.
