A breakthrough in transportation sector, especially air transportation, starting from East Kalimantan Province on Wednesday, 17 August 2011, by launching a new airline named Kaltim Air in International Airport Sepinggan - Balikpapan at 14.00 LT (Central Indonesia Time zone). The fleets will have dominant color of white and green with small writing of Kaltim Green and logo of Enggang Bird at its tail. The writing of Kaltim Air will be displayed on the body part with bigger size. "The main purpose of Kaltim Air is for an air bridge between border people and inland people in East Kalimantan," Awang Faroek Ishak, East Kalimantan Governor, explained in press conference of Kaltim Air. Also in coping with transportation matters that has been obstacles of primary commodity's high price in isolated regions. Kaltim Air in first phase will be strengthened three planes, one BAE 146-72 (four machines), with a capacity of 72 passengers; and two Grand Carravan planes type, with a capacity of 12 passengers. Kaltim Air will operate of Jakarta - Berau - Tarakan reroutes, and will fly three days in a week. The ticket price will be at about US$ 80, cheaper than other airlines that have provide intern flight service of East Kalimantan at US$ 90. Kaltim Air that operates under PT Kaltim Avation Holding (KAH), will partner with some other companies. For the airplanes' purchasing and the license of Airplane Operation (Air Operator Certificate - AOC), KAH has partnered with PT Survei Udara Penas (Bae 146-72) and PT Prime Air (Grand Carravan). And for ground handling management will be under PT Gapura Angkasa.(eko)
