Airports Capacity Full in Asia, Airlines Keep Adding More Planes

Asian airlines has planned to buy new planes as the number of passenger increased.

The demand to satisfy passengers led many airlines in Asia to buy aircraft to increase their flight path.

But where will these airplanes be located?

The Asia Times said Terminals at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumidi International Airport serve 56 million passengers in 2016, and Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta serves 54.1 million passengers.

The airstrip at Changi Airport in Singapore, which serves 58.7 million passengers in 2016, will reach its maximum capacity by 2019.

Currently, Manila, which currently has a maximum capacity of 39.5 million passengers, is now limiting flights in the number of 40 aircrafts per hour.

Tan Son Nhat Ho Chi Minh, the busiest airport in Vietnam, is built to serve a maximum capacity of 25 million passengers but served 32 million passengers by 2016, up 28 percent from 2015.

Hanoi Airport has capacity for 25 million passengers but already served 20.5 million passengers in 2016 with a projected 20 percent passenger growth.

The full capacity of airports in Asia can result in delays and lead to financial burdens.

Philippine Airlines last year reported losing USD60 for every minute a plane was retained. When summed per year this figure reaches USD 40-45 million.

There are currently 18 airport projects in Asia totaling value of USD34 billion, including seven in Vietnam and four in Indonesia. One of the projects in Vietnam has been delayed by two years and financial difficulties could also result in work in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Many airlines admit, they have difficulty facing the explosion of air travel. Southeast Asia's middle class reaches 200 million people and is expected to double by 2020 and they will have the money and the desire to travel.
