After the economic turmoil that hit the air transport business last year, the air liners are now coming into a revitalization. In semester 1 (H1) this year (2010) reports said that most of the airliners have booked profits, including EVA Air, the Taiwan flag air carrier that have been long running business in Indonesia. The company reported that the export volume which grew up double year-on-year have provided a significant contribution to the company's balance sheet. "The export cargo in first half that doubled from last year volume has benefited us very much," General Manager EVA Air, Makmun Hamsa, recently told Cargo Times+. Makmun expects for a higher growth in H2, thus covering the company's loss last year. "I expect the trend will go on. So, the profit this year can cover our loss last year," he said. He explained that there was a very high growth in H1 this year, compared to the same period last year. Last year, he said, the export volume was down sharply. However, he did not say in detail the tonnage nor the total amount of shipments. He also refused to explained weather it had new investment to anticipate such export growth. According Makmun, the high export to US and Europe have triggered that export growth of the company with electronic and garment as the leading commodities. Meanwhile, though there was a growth, import faced a slower growth, compared to export. To serve the export-import, EVA Air is deploying several freighters, including Boeing 747-400 with capacity 100 ton, MD 11 (75 ton). In addition, it also deploying some passengers fleet including Boeing 777 with capacity of 20 ton and Boeing 747-400 with capacity of 32 ton.(ayos)
