Martinair To Become All-Cargo Carrier From 2012
Martinair, the Air France-KLM unit, plans to end passenger operations starting in 2012 and focus on air cargo, with KLM expected to take over some of the abandoned services.
Martinair said it did not expect its transformation into an all-cargo carrier would result in any job losses as affected staff could be transferred to KLM, reported London's International Freighting Weekly, but it would involve corporate restructuring.
Martinair operates a cargo fleet of seven MD-11s and five Boeing 747-400s, and a passenger fleet of four B767-300s.
Air France-KLM has already placed all its Schiphol-based freighters into the hands of Martinair. Five freighters operated by Air France out of Paris Charles de Gaulle will remain at the French hub, the report added. (schednet)
