TNT Increases Airfreight Capacity Between China And Europe
TNT is increasing its air freight capacity between China and Europe to meet growing demand. Starting 5 July 2010, the company is scheduling an additional Boeing 747-400 ERF aircraft between China and its European air hub in Liege, Belgium. TNT will increase its service frequency to six flights per week from Shanghai and five flights per week from Hong Kong. TNT is responding to the stronger demand in China for its air services, especially from the high-tech and fashion industries. Chinese exports to Europe rose almost 50% during the five first months of 2010 from a year before, according to the Chinese General Administration of Customs. During the same period, the bilateral trade between China and the EU totaled $177 billion, an increase of 37.4 percent over last year, confirming the EU's position as China's number one trade partner. The increase of flight frequency between China and Europe will also give a positive impact to other regions which have a heavy trading activity with those two regions such as Indonesia. According to data from Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), non oil and gas export from Indonesia to China during January until May 2010 reached US$1.01 billion or contributed 10.27% from total non oil and gas export in Indonesia and became the third biggest export destination for Indonesia, while European Union (27 countries) contributed 13.08% or US$1.33 billion. Moreover non oil and gas import from China during January until May 2010 reached US$7.13 billion or contributed 17.63% from total non oil and gas import in Indonesia and ranked the first position of top import destination, while European Union contributed 8.69% or US$3.51 billion. "China and Europe are the top five import and export destination for TNT Indonesia. The enhanced service will benefit our customers in Indonesia including faster delivery (transit time reduction up to one day) especially between Indonesia and Europe, dedicated space which gives a guarantee and flexibility, and bigger capacity which enables them to deliver more heavy shipments within those trade lanes,"said Ivan Siew, Director of TNT Indonesia.(mar)
