Garuda Indonesia Supports the Improvement of Air Cargo Safety
Flag carrier Garuda Indonesia (Garuda) stated their readiness to support the Ministry of Transportation (MoT) to push Regulated Agents (RA) in fulfilling the air cargo safety standard as a form to follow up the result from European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Recently, VP Corporate Communications Garuda Indonesia, Benny S. Butarbutar in Cengkareng said that it relates to the Transportation Minister's recommendation as expressed in his visit to the Garuda's cargo facility and to some RAs (Sunday, end of August). Garuda agreed to support the MoT in improving the air cargo safety standard. "Garuda Indonesia will push the Regulated Agents to carry out several adjustments especially in air cargo safety aspect. According to EASA's audit, the standard of Indonesian air cargo safety still has some weakness, like at the security check point and access grant for some people to cargo's limited area," said Benny. He added that the improvement of Garuda's cargo safety standard is not only carried out in the area of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, but also in all Indonesian regions served by Garuda's cargo. "The point is Garuda will try to optimize the existing cargo service by ensuring all processes of cargo services from goods receive from customers, packing, cargo document administration, safety check, delivery procedure and cargo handling from one station to other stations work as the existing standard. This effort should be implemented from the very outside line of cargo service including the Regulated Agent. The improvement of air cargo safety step will, of course, protect the planes in running its cargo operation," explained Benny.
