MJP Cargo Holds The Commitment and Customers' Trusts by Giving The Best Services

Many logistics and forwarding companies in Indonesia compete with each other to get many delivery orders without considering compatible tools and reliable infrastructures. It may damage cargoes before the delivery, on the delivery, or even after the delivery (at the destination address).

This condition motivates one of the forwarding companies with 23 years of experience, PT. Mitra Jayakarta Persada or MJP CARGO (MJP) to become an integrated logistics company, domestics and international with the core skills in air, sea, and land transportation for fragile or time-sensitive cargoes and general cargoes.

MJP, the office is on Jalan Marsekal Suryadarma, Selapajang Jaya, Tangerang, Banten (a strategic location, nearby the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport/CGK), has had 10 branches (Surabaya, Denpasar, Medan, Balikpapan, Makassar, Banjarmasin, etc), and the human resources about 300 people, land fleets around 100 units, and are facilitated with main supporting infrastructures like a transit warehouse. Moreover, MJP also works together with business partners for other cargo warehouses and cold storage to keep the cargo quality in good condition.

In the interview with Cargo Times (CT), Head Export of MJP Cargo, Ms. Melinda said as other forwarding companies, MJP offers logistics services like air freight, sea freight, and trucking. “For air freight and sea freight include domestic and international. And trucking covers the national area, Sumatera, Jawa, and Bali islands. The operational bases are almost at every seaport and airport in Indonesia, and also through global networks in several countries, in Asia and Europe."

And according to Melinda to CT, airfreight mode is the fastest transportation to deliver goods. Therefore, MJP, which has become an agent in the International Air Transportation Association (IATA), partners with commercial airlines and cargo freighters globally so that we can arrange direct flights.

“With the networks of agents and partners across the world and combined with skillful staff, our customers may trust that their delivery would be safe and punctual. Why? Because we provide services like door-to-door, pick-up, and packing as they need. Before the delivery, our skillful and certified staff in air cargo safety procedure will explain to exporters that they have to obey and follow the strict flight safety regulations. Our main point is to offer a complete air freight service package via our global networks, especially in Asia,” she said.

Talking about export and import businesses, according to Melinda to CT, sea transportation is an ideal choice, especially for customers who have big volume goods.

“For the export process, we negotiate with many shipping companies to get the best price and options for our customers. We can choose several containers that are compatible with the goods, such as dry or reefer 20’ and 40’. Our sea freight service is door-to-port. Qualified staff will make sure that our customers’ goods will arrive at the destination safely and on time. For the import, after the containers are stated clear by the Customs and or Quarantine, customers will be informed about their cargoes/goods. Then our truck will direct the delivery to all destinations”, she said.

Similar to other forwarding companies, MJP also delivers various cargoes such as General Cargo, like: cars, garments, shoes, herbal, furniture, spare parts, or Dangerous Goods, Valuable Cargo, and other factory goods. However, said MJP Director, we do have special logistics services, with tens of experience handling vulnerable goods or time-sensitive goods (perishable cargoes), like Seafood, Fruits, Bird Nest, Vegetables, Fish seeds, and other perishable goods. They will, of course, handled by certified and skillful staff, especially in cargo safety procedures for air, sea and land.

“As information, the delivery process and procedures of perishable cargoes export or live animals should meet some requirements, for example, the delivery should hold Export Permit for the goods that will be delivered. And the products should pass the Quarantine Body (Agriculture/Fishery and Maritime Ministry) and be in accordance with the Indonesian Republic’s and export destination countries’ regulation,” said Melinda.

She continued, there will be different handling procedures towards high-value perishable cargoes, for example, swallow’s nests. “For swallow’s nests products/high-value perishable goods, normally the Shippers/Exporters cover their goods with insurance and packing that follow the standards in destination countries. It aims to protect the goods quality. And one thing that should also be considered is when doing the loading process in the airplane, the goods may not be loaded together with other goods.”

To be known that swallow's nest product is an Indonesian prime product to China. The export of Indonesian swallow nest products can dominate around 75 percent of the swallow nest market in China.

When CT asked about the company's development during the pandemic, Melinda said that the company should always operate, and even it can grow by prioritizing dynamism by following the development flow (especially the new regulations from government offices) and the market trend. Also, we should maintain our customers' trust and always give the best service.

“We believe that the most important stakeholders are customers and employees, then the owners. Based on this trust, MJP always prioritizes customers' needs and interests as the main priority. To give priority to customers, indeed, will only be done well if the front line employees give their support as the ones that contact directly with customers. Therefore, training, support, rewards, and punishments to the employees should be implemented maximally. This is the strategy implemented by MJP”, she explained.

Melinda continued, for MJP, the business is not only about profits, yet there should be share with others. ”We have done some Company Social Responsibility activities since the company started to operate, both occasional CSR and regular CSR such as: sharing job opportunities to the Head of Village where our office or branches are located; distribute surgical masks and groceries to the community around the neighborhood; distribute groceries to people who were cut off from their job; and many other CSR activities that we do," she said.

Air Cargo

Talking again about air cargo, Melinda said the company use almost all world airlines that are in accordance with the destinations for regular flights like China Airlines (CI), Singapore Airlines (SQ), Garuda Indonesia (GA), Eva Airlines (BR), Emirates (EK), Asiana Airlines (OZ), and many more.

“From our data, the air cargo volume that we handled in 2021, especially the Perishable is approximately 1200 tons monthly. And for General Cargo is approximately 350 tons per month", she said.

She explained that during the last 2 years in the pandemic season, the air cargo trend generally experienced significant decline due to the limitation of airlines operation, especially to the international destinations. However, as the pandemic in the world is going to incline, many countries have opened their international flight operation even though it is still limited.

She continued, MJP indeed supports the direct flight trend done by a State-owned Airlines or private airlines from several provinces in Indonesia. “Currently, the Indonesian government (read Provincial Government) is activating the direct flight in eastern and central Indonesia regions. Especially for perishable cargo export. Therefore, it is not necessary to make transit at the Soekarno Hatta Airport or Cengkareng. Plus, it can save logistics and bureaucracy costs.”

Moreover, the direct flights are activated considering Indonesia is rich in maritime resources in some regions like Bali, Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, Ambon, and others.

“One of our market strategies is to improve the company's cargo business by opening branch offices or create partnerships with logistics partners in those potential regions, and we still give our best services to our customers. That is the key," closed Melinda.
