Angkasa Pura Airports or PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero) / AP I has transported 15,901,323 kgs or almost 16 thousand tons of cargo during the period of Eid-ul Fitr delivery starting from 25 April - 10 May 2022 in 15 AP I’s airports.
If the amount is compared to the same period in 2021, AP I recorded a cargo volume increase up to 19 percent of 13.4 thousand tons of cargo.
Meanwhile, if it is compared to the same period with the normal condition before Covid-19, the cargo volume experienced an increase by 30 percent of 12,2 thousand tons of cargo in 2019.
“The cargo traffic at 15 airports under our management during the transport period in Eid-ul Fitr kept showing a positive trend in the last few years. The high cargo volume happened due to the change of people’s shopping trend during the Covid-19 pandemic, which they used to do offline shopping at some malls switched to online shopping through e-commerce so it contributed to raise the cargo performance using airplanes especially in Eid-ul Fitr period,” said Faik Fahmi, the President Director of Angkasa Pura Airports.
There were three AP I airports that served the biggest cargo volume during Eid-ul Fitr period. First, Sentani Jayapura Airport (DJJ) transported 4.2 thousand tons of cargoes or increased up to 55 percent compared to the 2021’s that transported 2.7 thousand tons of cargoes.
Second, Sultan Hasanuddin Makassar (UPG) that transported 3,18 thousand tons of cargoes or increased 14 percent compared to the 2021's that transported 2.8 tons of cargoes.
Third, Juanda Surabaya Airport (SUB) that transported 2.4 thousand tons of cargoes or increased up to 27 percent compared to the 2021’s that transported 1.9 tons of cargoes.
Additional information, in the quarter I, 2022 (January - March), the cargo traffic at 15 AP I airports experienced an increase by 5.8 percent or about 114 thousands of cargoes, from 107.6 thousand tons of cargo in Quarter I, 2021.
AP I has projected that it can serve up to 451,000 tons of cargo by the end of 2022, or an increase of 4 percent compared to 2021 which served up to around 434,000 tons of cargo.
The 16th Airport, Logistic Hub
As an additional information, in December 2021, AP I and IIAC Consortium (South Korea) and PT. Wijaya Karya Tbk. (Persero) won the tender of Hang Nadim International Airport management, Batam.
Winning the tender of Hang Nadim Airport management, automatically, adds the portfolio and the network of corporate airport management so the total of airports managed by AP I becomes 16 airports.
As the head of the consortium, AP I will be responsible for commercial and operational management generally. Meanwhile, IIAC has obligations and responsibility in marketing and airport development in general. Meanwhile, WIKA is a State-owned corporation in the construction sector that is integrated with supporting industries that have responsibility in airport infrastructure management.
The scopes of this management cooperation are the construction, expansion, management, and maintenance of the existing passenger terminal (T1), new passenger terminal (T2), and their infrastructure; the management of new cargo terminals; and the concept of developing a master plan for Batam's Hang Nadim Airport with the concept of Logistics Aerocity. In the future, Hang Nadim Airport will be developed to become a wider aviation destination hub and a logistics and cargo hub in western Indonesia. The location of Batam's Hang Nadim Airport is quite strategic in the Southeast Asia region and is adjacent to a cargo port and industrial area, making this airport suitable as a logistics center.
