Having an international standard of the racing arena in Indonesia, Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) succeeded in organising a prestigious MotoGP Mandalika race or IndonesianGP 2023 on 13 - 15 October 2023.

The success is a positive signal for Indonesia in tourism and MSME local economy improvement as well as the race itself to move up to the world race events. The international event also yielded pride for Indonesia in several sectors, one of them is the Logistics Sector.

Dorna Sport boss, Carlos Ezpeleta, who is also Dorna’s Chief Sporting Officer has acknowledged this and made his statements to the media on Sunday (15 October) said that all MotoGP preparations got better and the logistics were even much more efficient compared to last year.

Troficiendy Suroso, the Operations Director of PT Angkasa Pura Logistik explained to Cargo Times that the success of MotoGP Mandalika event was inseparable from the full support in logistics services from PT Angkasa Pura Logistik as an integrated logistics State-owned Corporation. “It was started from the handling of arrival cargoes (temporary import) to the re-export of the motorbikes and all MotoGP race equipment,” he said.

Import (Arrival)

The logistics arrival of MotoGP Cargoes was done step by step; it started from 28 September to 9 October 2023 with the total of cargo was less than 525 tons.

“20 containers from Europe and Asia that were transported by sea arrived, then they were checked by the Customs and Clearance at Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, and Tanjung Perak, Surabaya. Then, they were transported by sea to Lembar Port, Lombok, NTB. The last transport was by land using trucks headed to Mandalika International Circuit,” said Troficiendy.

Besides transporting by sea, on Tuesday, 3 October 2023, MotoGP cargoes gradually arrived via a chartered flight from Narita using Japan’s freighters of Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA). The first freighter, flight number KZ6231, which carried motorbikes and their spare parts as well as other supporting MotoGP equipment, arrived at Zainuddin Abdul Majid International Airport (BIZAM), Lombok, contained around 111-ton cargoes. Then, the second freighter, flight number KZ2233 arrived containing about 93 tons of cargo.

“For the umpteenth time, Angkasa Pura Logistics has been trusted by MGPA (Mandalika Grand Prix Association), and DORNA Sports as the MotoGP and WSBK promoter to handle logistics for the Mandalika MotoGP event. The estimated total cargo for MotoGP 2023 is around 525 tons, both via sea and air shipping. “There are 4 stages handled by Angkasa Pura Logistics, namely starting from the Loading, Distribution, Unloading and Breakdown stages,” said Troficiendy to Cargo Times.

The re-export process involved three airlines that have freighters, they are Silk Way Airlines, Atlas Air, and Malaysia Airlines with five flight frequencies,” said the Operations Director of PT Angkasa Pura Logistik, who used to work at the Citilink Indonesia airline.

After the air transportation, the logistics work expanded to use sea transportation. The shipping delivery was scheduled to embark from Lembar Port, Lombok, NTB on 23 October 2023. The cargo delivery was aimed to ship to Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya before being distributed to other international destinations.
