
The Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia is now entering its second year, the Eid tradition should be the peak season for aviation businesses in Indonesia. However, the government actually issued a regulation of banning homecoming using all types of transportation, including air.
Therefore, all airlines in Indonesia, including Citilink, must re-engage in a strategy to maintain their business continuity.
Citilink’s strategic effort in optimizing its business amidst the ban of homecoming (mudik) before Eid al-Fitr this year is to prioritize domestic cargo services with 36 flights to 20 destinations in Indonesia on May 6, 2021.
“Citilink fully supports government policies in controlling transportation during the Eid holiday with the aim of suppressing the spread of Covid-19 in Indonesia. Since the first day of the homecoming ban implementation of, Citilink cargo flights have received an increase in revenue and this is a blessing for Citilink”, said Citilink Indonesia’s President Director, Juliandra in a written statement on Saturday (May 8).
Furthermore, he said that the cargo flight at this time had a significant contribution during the period of the absence of homecoming, many people sent packages as an expression of hospitality with relatives and family.
On May 6, 2021, Citilink flight transported a total of about 250 tons of cargo with the average carried per flight was 70 percent. Cargoes that were transported, 95 percent were general products such as delivering goods and documents.
Citilink has transported cargo to various cities in Indonesia such as Jakarta, Medan, Surabaya, Makassar, Balikpapan, Pekanbaru, Pontianak, Batam and by using various types of aircraft including the Airbus A320, ATR 72-600, and Boeing B735 specifically for cargo.
“In the future, Citilink is committed to expanding its cargo flight network to other cities in order to facilitate logistics needs in Indonesia,” Juliandra concluded.
