The statement was said briefly and meaningful by Emirsyah Satar, President Director of PT. Garuda Indonesia, Tbk., both for the Garuda Indonesia and the national aviation business in his presentation, in "Asia Pacific Ministers & Regional Governors and Indonesia International Infrastructure Conference & Exhibition 2012" seminar at Jakarta Convention Centre, Jakarta, Wednesday (29/8). One of his slides showed that the quality of Soekarno-Hatta International (Cengkareng) Airport is still substandard, especially if we compare with other airports in other ASEAN countries. Indonesia is at 80th level, way below Singapore (rank 1), Malaysia (rank 20), Thailand (rank 32), and Brunei (rank 62). Therefore, as an international airport, Cengkareng is labeled "unclassified" by the SkyTeam Alliance evaluation and so are Manila (Philippine) and Saigon (Vietnam). In its official site, one SkyTeam Alliance's requirement is Lounge access or the standard of access or condition in Airport (Terminal). "Garuda Indonesia considers the joint venture with PT. Angkasa Pura 2 (the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Operator) is very important especially in managing Terminal 2 E and F (International Terminal) to realize the condition in the airport meet the standard requirements of the SkyTeam Alliance," Emirsyah said. This statement also confirmed that Garuda Indonesia tries to make Cengkareng as one of the hubs of the SkyTeam Alliance aviation service network. Besides presenting the quality challenge of an airport, Emirsyah also explained about human resources in aviation business in quality and quantity of pilots and technicians as ones of Garuda Indonesia's challenges that will receive new fleets until 2015. Other challenge that Garuda Indonesia ever got was economy crisis in Europe that hampered and dragged the expansion of aviation business. The crisis causes profit reduction, big lost until flight purchasing postpones of well-known airlines.
