The development plan of new air cargo terminal at the Soekarno Hatta International Airport (Soetta), Cengkareng happened simultaneously with the plan of Grand Design of Soekarno Hatta (2011) to become the World Class Airport. In the Soetta Grand Design that was signed by the ground breaking that was carried out by the former President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on August 2, 2012 there were five development agendas: 1) Runway optimization; 2) Public Terminal revitalization and expansion; 3) The development of business and commercial facilities; 4). The development of integrated building between Terminal 1 and 2; 5). The expansion of new cargo terminal or "Cargo Village". Cargo Village is a zone that becomes a hub for air cargo activities, offices and business of air freight, freight forwarder, Custom services, courier service companies and several transportation modes. One of air cargo communities that is joined in ICAC (IATA Cargo Agents Club) fully supports the development of Cargo Village. ICAC considers that the development of Cargo Village is due to the rise of passengers and cargo flows at the busiest airport in Indonesia. "In 2014, the passenger traffic at Soetta was estimated to reach 60 million people. Meanwhile, the current airport capacity is only for 22 million passengers per annum. Still in the same year, the volume of cargo traffic was estimated excessive, which the capacity is higher than the standard capacity of cargo terminal that was only 500,000 tons. It means that the cargo terminal facility is considered as inadequate to accommodate the goods as the traffic becomes high," said Ade Wellington Adrian, Head of ICAC speaking in the brief discussion with the Cargo Times in Jakarta. At the end of the discussion with the Cargo Time, still related to the existence of the new air cargo terminal, Ade expects that the government, here is represented by PT Angkasa Pura 2, may hear and consider the voices and suggestions from the air cargo stakeholders. "Invite and ask us to discuss and contribute in the Cargo Village development, so we can give some inputs and suggestions to build a world class Cargo Village."(en/mar)
