Flag carrier, Garuda Indonesia (Garuda) feel optimistic that the income of cargo delivery will reach US$270.8 million this year or increase more than the cargo’s income realization in 2016 for US$228 million.

The Director of Garuda Indonesia Cargo Sigit Muhartono in his statement in Jakarta, Thursday (10 August) said the target could be reached due to the addition of 25 Cargo Service Center (CSC) that will happen until the end of 2017.

So, Garuda will serve the air cargo delivery at more than 94 CSC in all over Indonesia as the total of CSC until the end of 2017.

“This step is to support the corporate’s efforts in expanding the national air cargo market segment,” he said.

Sigit said, this year (2017) is the momentum for Garuda to expand their cargo business after the internal consolidation, which they focused more on it last year.

“This year, we are trying to maximize the existing cargo capacity so that the level of flight cargo’s occupancy could increase more than the last year target,” he said.

With the addition of CSC outlets, Sigit continued, the opportunity to work on market share will be more opened.

Moreover, he said, the trend of daring shopping and e-commerce business in Indonesia is booming sharply.

"Therefore, we plan to add another 25 CSC outlets this year as the main key in this cargo business is how we give our effort to approach our customers,” he explained.

The addition of CSC outlets is also in line with the strategic plan of Garuda to be more serious to work on the door-to-door delivery service. Previously, Garuda only did airport-to-airport delivery.
