THAI Announces Acquisition Plan Of New Aircraft For 2011-2017
Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) recently has announced the acquisition plan for new aircraft for the year 2011-2017, with background behind the decision on acquisition methodology and on the necessity for fleet expansion. Piyasvasti Amranand, THAI President, announced that on 11 June 2011, Ampon Kittiampon, THAI Board of Directors Chairman, chaired the Board of Directors' meeting that approved the acquisition plan for 37 new aircraft for the year 2011-2017. The new aircraft will be integrated into THAI's route network, including domestic routes and where competition is strong. The THAI Board approved the purchase of 15 aircraft, totaling approximately THB 49.5 billion and the operating lease of 22 aircraft totaling approximately THB 69.1 billion. 1. Approved THAI to contract for the purchase of six (6) B777-300ER aircraft with delivery between 2014-2015. 2. Approved THAI to contract for the purchase of four (4) A350 aircraft with delivery between 2016-2017. 3. Approved THAI to contract for the purchase of five (5) A320 aircraft with delivery between 2014- 2015. 4. Approved THAI to contract for a 12-year operating lease of eight (8) B787 aircraft with delivery between 2014-2017. 5. Approved THAI to contract for a 12-year operating lease of eight (8) A350 aircraft with delivery between 2016-2017. 6. Approved THAI to contract for a 12-year operating lease of six (6) A320 aircraft with delivery between 2012-2013. The aircraft acquisition plan for the year 2011-2017 will enable THAI to raise its standard through modern, efficient and safe fleet while supporting network expansion with competitive equipment. With high comfort and advanced in-flight products, THAI expects to generate high profit through continuous growth, strong financial position, and maintaining its market share, as well as rank in the top three leading airline in Asia and top five in the world for quality and service efficiency. In addition, the new aircraft are made of light-weight and non-corrosive composite material to save on fuel and maintenance costs.
